IRT 25-26 IRT Application Form

The Interdisciplinary Research Team Fellowship program supports interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary projects that expand traditional notions of research through collaborative work. The program supports teams of 2-5 rising sophomores and juniors working on a semester or year-long project. We welcome students from all schools, but the majority of the team should be from SAS.

We encourage projects that think creatively about the uses to which research can be put and propose any type of “deliverable” beyond a traditional research paper. For example, projects might involve development of a proposal, prototype, a communications campaign, a set of resources for a particular group, an exhibit, a (virtual or actual) tour, a public education plan, an app, etc. Teams must be multidisciplinary but at least half of any team should be SAS students and supervising faculty must be from SAS.

Faculty supervisors will ensure that their IRT Team works cooperatively to produce the proposed project. Each Team will present their research at a fall research symposium and spring poster session. Teams that are only working during the spring semester will only participate in the spring poster session. All digital posters must be submitted to the SAS Office of Undergraduate Education by the end of the semester.

Students who are selected as IRT fellows will register for 01:556:328:GT (1.5 credits) for each semester of the project. Students should expect to complete 5-7 hours of work per week over the course of the semester. Faculty are encouraged to meet with their team as often as is needed during the semester.

In support of their academic success and their commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship, fellows will receive a $750 per semester award. Awards will be applied to fellows’ current term bill at the end of the semester.

Advisors will receive $2,500 in research funds for the academic year. Co-advisors will receive $2,000 each for the academic year.
