Facilitating Difficult Dialogues in the Classroom

Wednesday, August 18, 2021, 12:00pm - 01:00pm

Learn how to facilitate productive and inclusive classroom dialogues around difficult content in an interactive workshop with Shan Reeves, Community Based Counselor for Graduate Programs and Honors College through Counseling Alcohol and Other Drug Assistance Programs Psychological Services (CAPS). Participants will learn strategies to help prepare both themselves and their students for tackling difficult or controversial topics, as well as ways to increase student engagement and foster inclusive exchange. The workshop will also discuss implementable strategies for developing classroom norms, diffusing heated moments, and using a student questionnaire at the beginning of the semester to help create a more inclusive classroom space for productive dialogues.

This event is co-sponsored by the SAS Office of Undergraduate Education's Teaching & Learning team and Coalition for Anti-Racism, Social Justice, and Equity (CASE).
