Get some help while you plan your syllabus this summer.

Whether you’re preparing to teach remotely in the Fall or want to prepare for the possibility of a switch to remote instruction, take this summer to sharpen your online instruction skills and lay the groundwork for teaching in any modality.

  • Basics of remote instruction
  • Creating engagement in asynchronous remote courses
  • Effective use of tools like Big Blue Button, the Canvas gradebook, or PlayPosit

Enroll in a Flexible Pedagogy Summer Seminar!

This two-week asynchronous program will give you the knowledge and skills to rapidly redesign a course for remote instruction and effectively teach remotely.

What:

  • 2-week seminar
  • Asynchronous format with optional synchronous office hour sessions
  • Facilitated by SAS OUE teaching and learning team members David Goldman, Eliza Blau, and Jenevieve DeLosSantos
  • Commitment of approximately 6–8 hours per week

Why:

  • Develop your understanding of evidence-based best practices in course design and remote instruction
  • Connect to a supportive community of instructors and support staff at Rutgers
  • Develop and get feedback on your course materials, including:
    • A revised syllabus, including clearly articulated learning goals
    • At least one fully-built-out course module
    • Strategies for adapting your instructional activities, assignments, and exams to multiple formats
    • Strategies for engaging students, whether you’re teaching synchronously or asynchronously
  • Participants who complete all seminar activities will receive a Letter of Completion from Vice Dean of Undergraduate Education Susan Lawrence.

Register for a two-week session:

  • Session 1: 6/1–6/12 (FULL)
  • Session 2: 7/13–7/24 (FULL)
  • Session 3: 8/3–8/13

Designed for instructors who want to work steadily on course design and online instruction, this group will meet biweeky throughout the summer. 

What:

  • Biweekly synchronous meetings (to be scheduled based on participants’ availability)
  • Exploration of evidence-based best practices in online and remote course design and instruction
  • Facilitated by SAS OUE teaching and learning team members

Why:

  • Develop your understanding of evidence-based best practices in online education
  • Work steadily over the full summer
  • Regularly, synchronously meet with a cohort of fellow instructors
