2026-2027 Academic Year Course Accessibility Challenge

Are you wondering how to make your Canvas course site more accessible and usable, though not sure where to start? We've got something for you!

What is it?

This Course Accessibility Challenge takes a steady pace over the 2026-2027 academic year, which means you don’t have to do it all at once! The Federal government extended the timeline for compliance to the Title II digital accessibility regulations to April 24, 2027, which means we can approach this challenge monthly throughout the academic year. We’ll walk you through, step-by-step, how you can make meaningful progress toward a more inclusive digital environment in a sustainable way.

Should I sign up for this challenge?

YES! You do not have to be a digital accessibility or Canvas expert. This challenge will help break down accessible course content into smaller, doable chunks. Worried about falling behind? That’s okay! The material will come out monthly and previous months’ material will always be available to you, and you can come back to them when it’s convenient for you.

How will it work?

You will receive 3 emails every month for the academic year to help you make your Canvas course content accessible for all students. The emails will include opportunities to make changes to your course no matter how much time you have that month. Opportunities will include: “I have 5-minutes” or “I have more time.”

Are you ready?

Sign up today! This challenge will begin September 2026 and conclude April 2027. Registration will remain open throughout the academic year.

I participated in a 10-Day Course Accessibility Challenge in the past. How is this challenge different?

The goal for the 2026-2027 Course Accessibility Challenge is to slow the pace down from the 10-Day Course Accessibility Challenge. Going at a steady pace means we can spread topics out monthly instead of daily. Giving you time over the month to process the challenge and making meaningful progress. The end of the month will give you an opportunity to reflect on what you’ve accomplished that month and seamlessly keep track of your progress over the academic year.
