AI Statements in the Syllabus and Beyond

As AI technologies continue to evolve and find their way into our classrooms, communicating course policies and standards of academic integrity is more important than ever. However, as instructors' approaches to AI vary widely from discipline to discipline and course to course, students now have to navigate a dizzying array of approaches to AI use in academic settings.

Join us Thursday, March 5th from 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Gathering Room of the Livingston Student Center for a panel discussion featuring SAS faculty exploring strategies to communicate with your students about AI. Please RSVP for your event at this link.

Assignment Redesign Workshop: Writing Assignments and AI

Join the SAS Teaching & Learning team for an Assignment Redesign Workshop: Writing Assignments and AI on Tuesday, February 24th from 10AM-12PM in the Pane Room of the Alexander Library on College Ave. Register for the workshop.

From humanities papers to STEM lab reports, AI is affecting how students approach their writing. Whether you’re worried your current writing assignments are vulnerable to misuse of AI, or curious about ways students might productively use AI tools, your writing assignments could benefit from adapting to these new developments. This interactive workshop will guide you through the process of redesigning a writing assignment in light of AI.

Participants will bring a writing assignment they want to redesign and learn more about strategies for no-AI, AI-limited, and AI- integrated versions. All disciplines and forms of written assignments are welcome.

Concluding our Teaching Conversation series this year, we turn out attention to the topic of AI and undergraduate research. With evolving AI technologies available to our students, many instructors are thinking critically about the ways in which these tools could aid or impede undergraduate research. How can we help students to develop thorough research skills across disciplines without overly relying on AI usage? What possibilities does AI hold for new research pathways at the undergraduate level?
